You can bet it’s going to be a good day when you get out of bed and slam your foot into the rocking chair. Your first words of the day shouldn’t begin with God and end with damn. Pretty sure I broke my pinkie toe. Yep. Breaking your toe first thing in the morning gets the blood pumping faster than those two cups of coffee on the way to work.
It isn’t the first time I’ve broken toes. When I was a Junior in High School I took a women’s self-defense class that morphed into a Judo class. Judo was cool, and I was damn good at it. I could fall like a rock and roll like a stone. In no time at all I had my green belt and was going for brown.
Judo was how my ex-husband and I came to be. My best girlfriend’s fiance was taking a Judo class at Little Rock Air Force Base in Little Rock, Arkansas. His instructor was an Air Force Sergeant. When I went to visit, they introduced me and the rest is history. I not only got a ring but my brown belt too.
Broken toes are the norm in Judo. Your pinkies get caught in the mat and snap! There goes another one. Funny thing is, however, when you’re a teenager, toes heal a lot faster. Shoot, for that matter, when you’re a teenager everything heals quicker.
Oh, to be young and dumb.
